We are proud to share a recent success story from NARA Solicitors, where our urgent intervention over a weekend helped a student avoid the withdrawal of her sponsorship, the loss of her place in the UK, and serious damage to her future eligibility for the Graduate Route.

Our client was in the latter stages of her BSc Health Sciences degree. She was required to repeat a single outstanding module which she had previously been unsuccessful in completing. The University had been aware of the issue since the previous academic year, at which stage she was about to commence her third year.

Despite this, the University informed her that it intended to withdraw her Student sponsorship. This would have required her to leave the UK and placed her future eligibility for the Graduate Route at serious risk.

For an international student, sponsorship withdrawal is one of the most serious situations they can face. Once a university notifies the Home Office that it is no longer sponsoring a student, the consequences can be irreversible. The student's leave is curtailed, they must leave the UK, and years of study and investment can be lost. In this case, the client also stood to lose her future route to post-study work in the UK through the Graduate Route.

The client was understandably extremely distressed. She approached us for urgent assistance over the weekend, as the withdrawal notification was expected to be issued on the following Monday. There was no time to spare.

Our Approach

Recognising the severity of the situation and the potentially irreversible immigration consequences, our team acted immediately. Over the weekend, we:

  • Reviewed the full circumstances of the matter, including the client's academic position and the University's handling of the issue

  • Prepared detailed legal representations to the University

  • Sought an immediate standstill on any notification to the Home Office, so that no irreversible step would be taken while the matter was under review

We then escalated the matter to senior University management to ensure our representations were considered at the right level before the Monday deadline.

The Outcome

Following our representations and escalation, the University reconsidered its position. It has now confirmed that a new CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) will be issued for the repeat period. This enables our client to make a further Student Route application, continue her studies, and complete her degree. Her future eligibility for the Graduate Route is protected.

This is a life-changing result for our client. Instead of facing removal from the UK in the final stages of her degree, she can now finish what she started.
