Self Sponsorship Visa UK
Self sponsorship visa in the UK is not a specific visa category. Instead, it is a process that allows business owners to stay or live in the UK to run their active trading business.
The process involves setting up a UK business, obtaining a sponsor licence for it, and then getting a Skilled Worker visa through the same business. Essentially, it allows individuals to sponsor themselves through their business to work in the UK.
This allows applicants to bring their dependents (partner and children) to the UK and provides a pathway to settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) after five years, eventually leading to British citizenship.

Self Sponsorship Visa Process
You can sponsor yourself in the UK in four steps. The whole process of sponsoring yourself on skilled worker visa is a four step process with Nara Solicitors.
Step 1: Establish a company in the UK
You must have an active and genuine UK business and have resources to support the business operations. If you do not have a registered business, you can do it now. Even a two month old company got sponsor licence with us. Also there is no limitation to what type of business you need to start to apply for self sponsorship visa route. You can also takeover existing UK business.
Step 2: Obtaining Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence for the Company
After registering your UK company, the next crucial step for obtaining a Skilled Worker visa via self-sponsorship is to apply for and secure a Skilled Worker sponsor licence for your business. When you apply for a sponsor licence, Home Office requires assurance that:
• Your UK business is authentic and operates legally within the UK.
• Your UK business is capable of performing its sponsorship responsibilities effectively.
• Your UK business provides genuine employment that meets the salary and skill level criteria set by the Skilled Worker route.
To demonstrate to the Home Office that your business is legitimate and operating within UK law, you will need to submit at least four specified documents as indicated in Appendix A of the sponsor guidance.
The required documents can vary based on the specifics of your application, so seeking professional advice is recommended. A typical Skilled Worker sponsor licence application should include:
Corporate Bank Account Proof: Evidence that the business maintains an active corporate bank account with a bank authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority in the UK.
Plus any three of the following:
HMRC Employer Registration: Proof that the business is registered with HMRC for PAYE and National Insurance.
VAT Registration: Proof of VAT registration with HMRC.
Employer’s Liability Insurance: Evidence of employer’s liability insurance coverage for at least £5 million from an authorised insurer.
Business Premises Proof: Documents showing ownership or lease of business premises.
Annual Accounts: The most recent annual financial accounts of the business.
We will guide you through the process of obtaining a Sponsor Licence for your UK business and advise you on all the necessary documents required for the application.
Step 3: Apply Skilled Worker Visa
Once your company’s sponsor licence application is approved, your business can apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). If you are applying from outside the UK, you will need a Defined CoS. If you are switching visas within the UK, you will need an Undefined CoS. After the CoS is assigned, you need to apply for Skilled Workers Visa and our team will assist you with your Skilled Worker Visa application.
