We are proud to share another success story from NARA Solicitors!

Our client, a pizza store, came to us needing a sponsor licence to hire skilled migrant workers.

The challenge?

The food outlet business was only six months old. For any new company, applying for a sponsor licence can be complex. But for a business with such a short trading history, the scrutiny from the Home Office is even more intense.

When assessing sponsor licence applications, the Home Office looks closely at whether a business is genuine and established enough to meet its sponsor duties.

A company that has only been trading for six months faces additional questions about stability, financial viability, and its genuine need for skilled workers.

In this case, the Home Office decided to conduct a pre-licence compliance interview with the Authorising Officer (AO). The Home Office uses these interviews to verify the information provided in the application and to assess whether the organisation truly understands its responsibilities as a sponsor.

At NARA Solicitors, we knew that preparation would be everything.

A pre-licence compliance interview can be intense, with questions covering everything from the business structure and HR systems to specific sponsor duties and compliance requirements.

We prepared our client's Authorising Officer thoroughly. This included mock interviews to simulate the real experience, detailed briefings on likely questions and how to answer them clearly, and a review of all documentation to ensure the AO was familiar with every aspect of the application.

We did not stop there. NARA Solicitors represented the client during the interview itself. Having legal representation during a Home Office interview can make a real difference. It ensures that questions are answered accurately and that any misunderstandings are addressed immediately.

The interview lasted a full hour. Our client's AO, well prepared through our training sessions, answered confidently and clearly. Our presence during the interview meant we could step in when clarification was needed. This helped avoid any confusion that could have delayed the decision.

The result speaks for itself.

Just three hours after the interview concluded, the Home Office approved the sponsor licence.

This quick turnaround shows what thorough preparation can achieve. Despite the business being only six months old, our client demonstrated they were ready to take on the responsibilities of being a licensed sponsor.

This case highlights several important points for businesses applying for a sponsor licence.

  • New businesses can get a sponsor licence. A short trading history does not automatically mean refusal, but you need to be ready for extra scrutiny.
  • Interview preparation matters. If the Home Office decides to conduct a pre-licence compliance interview with your Authorising Officer, proper preparation can make the difference between approval and refusal.
  • Compliance readiness is key. The Home Office wants to see that you understand your sponsor duties and have systems in place to meet them from day one.

If your business is new and you are worried about whether you can get a sponsor licence, do not let that stop you from applying. With the right preparation and support, it is possible.

At NARA Solicitors, we handle sponsor licence applications, compliance audits, and interview preparation for businesses of all sizes.

Whether you are a new company or an established organisation, we can guide you through the process.
