The Spouse Visa allows the husband, wife, or civil partner of a person who is a British citizen, has settled status, or has permission to be in the UK on an eligible route to join them here. Unmarried partners in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership of at least two years may also be eligible. The application requires evidence of a genuine and subsisting relationship and must meet the financial requirement, which requires the sponsoring partner to demonstrate a minimum income or savings at the level set by the Immigration Rules.
The financial threshold for spouse and partner visas increased in 2024 and remains one of the most common reasons for refusal. The current requirement must be checked carefully at the point of application. The application also requires English language evidence from the applicant, a tuberculosis test in some cases, and a range of supporting documentation to demonstrate the relationship is genuine.
NARA Solicitors advises both applicants and their UK-based partners throughout the process. We help you gather the right evidence, prepare a strong application, and understand what the Home Office is looking for. If a previous application has been refused or if your circumstances are complex, such as where there are children from previous relationships or gaps in the relationship history, we can advise on the best approach before you apply.
