What is Skilled worker Visa
The Skilled Worker visa allows non-UK nationals to live and work in the UK in an eligible skilled job. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa and is now the main route for overseas professionals entering the UK workforce.
To apply, the individual must have a job offer from a UK employer that holds a valid Sponsor Licence, and the role must meet the skill and salary thresholds set by the Home Office. A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by the employer is required as part of the application.
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible for a Skilled Worker visa if:
You have a confirmed job offer from a licensed UK sponsor.
The job is on the list of eligible occupations.
The salary meets the minimum threshold (typically £38,700, though exceptions apply for shortage occupations and new entrants).
You meet the required level of English language proficiency.
This visa can be granted for up to 5 years and can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 5 years of lawful residence, subject to meeting the criteria.
