Same Sex Partner Applications

NARA Solicitors advises same sex couples on UK partner visa applications, ensuring that your application reflects the full strength of your relationship and meets all the relevant requirements.

Same Sex Partner Visa Applications

Same sex partners are entitled to apply under the same partner visa provisions as married couples and civil partners. If you are in a civil partnership, you can apply as a civil partner. If you are not formally in a registered partnership, you can apply as an unmarried partner, provided you can demonstrate that you have been living together in a relationship akin to marriage for at least two years at the time of application. Immigration law treats same sex couples on the same basis as opposite sex couples, and the requirements are the same.

Those requirements include demonstrating a genuine and subsisting relationship, meeting the financial requirement, and the applicant meeting the English language requirement. Evidence of the relationship is particularly important and should clearly show cohabitation, shared finances, and the history of the relationship. Where partners have spent periods apart due to work or other circumstances, this can be addressed with the right evidence and a clear explanation of the circumstances.

NARA Solicitors understands the personal and legal dimensions of same sex partner applications and treats every case with care and discretion. We advise on the documentation needed, help you present your relationship history clearly and honestly, and ensure your application is as strong as possible. If you have faced complications such as a previous refusal or difficulties obtaining recognition of a civil partnership formed abroad, we can advise on the appropriate course of action.
