Dependant Visa

NARA Solicitors assists family members of those with permission to live and work or study in the UK to apply for a Dependant Visa, helping ensure your family can remain together during your time here.

Dependant Visa Applications

Most UK visa routes allow the main applicant to bring their partner and dependent children to the UK as dependants, provided they meet the relevant eligibility requirements. Dependants typically apply for leave that runs for the same period as the main applicant's visa. They are usually permitted to work and study in the UK, though the specific conditions depend on the main applicant's visa route. Each dependant must submit their own application, pay their own application fee, and pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Eligibility for dependant status depends on the relationship to the main applicant, the age of any children, and whether the relevant visa route permits dependants at all. Some routes have restrictions. For example, from March 2024 only students on PhD and research postgraduate courses can bring dependants from overseas, and from July 2025 new applicants in below-degree level health and care roles are not permitted to bring dependants. It is important to check the rules that apply to the specific visa route before making plans.

At NARA Solicitors, we advise on whether dependants are eligible under your specific visa route, what documentation is required, and how to structure the application to give it the best chance of success. If there are complexities around your relationship or your children's circumstances, we can advise on the appropriate evidence and approach. Family applications require the same care and attention as the main applicant's visa, and we are here to help with both.
