A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is a virtual document issued by a licensed sponsor to a migrant worker. It contains information about the job, the worker, and the sponsor. The worker needs this certificate to apply for their Skilled Worker visa.
There are two types of CoS: defined and undefined. A defined CoS is used for workers applying from outside the UK, while an undefined CoS is used for workers already in the UK who are switching or extending their visa.
How We Help
We support businesses in applying for and assigning Certificates of Sponsorship to skilled migrant workers. Whether you need to assign a defined or undefined CoS, we ensure each application is correctly prepared and submitted.
Our team checks that the role meets the skill level and salary requirements, ensures the job description aligns with the relevant SOC code, and prepares the CoS with accurate information to avoid delays or refusals at the visa application stage.
Defined vs Undefined CoS
If you are sponsoring a worker who is outside the UK, you need to request a defined CoS from the Home Office. There is an annual allocation, and each request is individually assessed.
For workers already in the UK, you can assign an undefined CoS directly through the Sponsorship Management System (SMS) without needing prior Home Office approval.
